Highlander at Scot-plant show 2016

Highlander have invested heavily in new equipment since the formation of our purpose built recycling facility in East Kilbride and no more so than our materials handling operations. We have to date purchased 5 JCB Tele-trucks with various materials attachments our most recent being a 3.5 ton 4x4 unit to allow safe lifting of reels of paper of 3 tons and so we can safely lift 3 bales of paper at once weighing around 2.5 tons.

The History of Paper

For experts, amateurs or aficionados, this “History of paper” fact sheet gives a fascinating insight into the origins of paper and where the paper manufacturing industry is today. While we are unfortunately, still reliant on imports for much of our paper requirements and heavily reliant on exports for almost 50% of our recovered paper, we still have a robust paper sector. With new mills opened in the last few years in all sectors and recycling of waste paper becoming more and more part of the national psyche, there should be a long and sustainable future for the industry.

Highlander at night – to everyone’s delight! stars

Highlander recently invested in signage and lighting for the side of our purpose built recycling factory in East Kilbride. The lighting display comes on automatically in the evening and illuminates the fixed sign on the building with a variety of colours of light displays. Now that the system is fully operational we produced a professional video showing our depot in all its nocturnal splendour and are delighted to show this for the first time!
